Minthorn Hall

Location

Built in 1885, Minthorn Hall is the oldest and only first-generation building left on campus. The building was vacated in 2024 to allow the university to analyze structural issues and evaluate potential future use.

Minthorn was originally built as a dormitory for Friends Pacific Academy, the predecessor of 麻豆社 Fox University. Former U.S. President Herbert Hoover attended the academy as a young boy, and it’s believed he may have lived in the dorm during this time.

In 1892, the hall was moved 10 blocks to its current location, accomplished by rolling the building on logs behind horses. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is named for Quakers Henry John and Laura Minthorn, early supporters of the college and Hoover’s aunt and uncle.
